Adding this 1 ingredient will fertilize your yard, produce more blooms, make tomatoes & peppers thrive AND keep slugs at bay. I consider this to be an all natural alternative to Miracle Grow. It’s very simple to use & when you’re done working in the garden, you can use it in your bath (hint hint)…it’s Epsom Salts.
Epsom Salts aren’t salt at all, they’re a mix of Magnesium and Sulfur, which help your plants to grow. I’m especially pleased with myself when it comes to this trick because my husband thought I was crazy when he first saw me spread them around our yard & garden. He is very supportive all my mad scientist ways, but I could tell he thought I was a little cra-cra for doing this. Then, he saw the results: the roses look fabulous, the yard looks great, no more slugs and I’m gonna have enough tomatoes to make salsa for like 3 years. Happy dance moment…I was right and he admitted it ;)
Here’s the “recipe”
- Pour 1 Tablespoon of epsom salts into a gallon of water & water your plants. I use this spray on my plants, tomatoes, peppers, roses & more.
I use this every couple of weeks & it keeps my garden looking great.
Here’s another way to use it:
- Pour some of the salts at the base of the plant & then water generously. For your yard, you can put them in a fertilzer spreader or if you’re a “Wing it” kind of person like myself, I just toss them out there using my hand.
Here’s an added bonus: Slugs don’t like epsom salts. Not only do I think slugs are gross, but they also leave big holes in my hostas which doesn’t make Momasaurus happy. I just sprinkle the salts where I don’t want them & they don’t come around. You’ll need to reapply them of course after it rains.
